Do you think I have the right to re-arrange the place?

I am living in a co-op apartment here in TN. I want to do renovation with my room. However, the owner said I could not do the renovation. I am planning to change the usual arrangements of rooms, kitchen and living area. He refused to let me do it. I can only change the color of the room, change the flooring, change the doors and windows, and change the ceiling. However, I cannot re-arrange them. Is it legal? It is not written on the policy where I signed a contract as a tenant. Do you think I have the right to re-arrange the place?
