Default Is it true that condominiums are risky to buy?

I am living with my parents here in Colorado. We have a simple house with four bedrooms and two bathrooms. I have two siblings. I will start working for my new company on January. I am planning to buy a condominium unit in Virginia. I have a saving account and I think its enough to buy a new property for myself. My parents told me that condominiums are risky to buy. They told me to buy a simple house. However, I want a condominium. Is it true that condominiums are risky to buy? Why? Is it because of the rules? What should I do?
