condo or single-family house?

I am newly married man, and we live in upstate New York. We just got married about three months ago. As of now, were leaving in my apartment but we want our own house soon. I am working in an advertising company and my wife works as a teacher. We are arguing on what to buy. How do you choose between condominiums and single-family homes? My wife wants single-family homes since we do not have kids yet but we are planning to have one next year. I want a condominium because I think there are cheaper than a normal house. What do you think is the best option for us?
