tenants by entirely

My husband and I are as part owners in a co-op apartment in Pennsylvania. We consulted a lawyer who told us that we should have the certificate amended to say "tenants by entirely." Is it necessary to change this wording? A friend of ours said that the fees to make the changes are over $1,000. Is this true?
